Emily Kim is a Professor of Graphic Design in the Department of Art at Sam Houston State University in Texas. Her works were exhibited in the Art Gallery at SIGGRAPH, Graphic Design USA, SMart Multimedia Art Festival, Florida International, Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences, 108 contemporary, West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival, Farmington Museum, and Alexandria Museum of Art in USA. Also, Kim’s works were included in the 10th Seoul International New Media Festival in Seoul and GwangJu International Exhibition at Asia Culture Center in Gwangju, South Korea, LED Media Façade in Selangor, Malaysia ,Techfest 2013, Annual International Science and Technological Festival in Bombay, India, 9th International Conference Computer Graphics in Hsinchu, Taiwan, 3rd International Festival of Nano Art in Iasi, Romania internationally.

My body of work is exploring an intersection of aesthetic development with scientific methods and technology, employing nano‐technology with semiconductor materials, x-ray lithography, optic and electronic microscope, and LCD touch screen. I investigate a medium and examine symbolic structures to express concepts of transcendence and spirituality in Buddhism. On deep levels, I have observed the natural beauty, richness, and complexity of organic forms.

This has led to exploration and experimentation in the area where the boundaries between the artistic and the scientific fields converge. Employing an interdisciplinary approach, art, science and technology, I have expressed the spiritual meaning of
Buddhist motifs and created a record of my own journey of understanding.

My belief is that art and science are ultimately one. One does not exist without the other; improvements in one reflect improvements in the other. The union of artistic idea and scientific exploration will bring new opportunities and knowledge, not only for art itself but, – through the integration of the two fields –a new insight
